Despite being in the basement, “Marley Garden” is a beer bar with high ceilings and an open, airy feel — the kind of calm space where you might sink into a sofa and lose track of time. The shop’s specialty is craft beer, with a particular focus on beers from Portland, Oregon, alongside a selection of Oregon whisky and wine.

Portland, also a sister city of Sapporo, has been ranked the most desirable city to live in in America and continues to draw major attention. Known as "the world's greatest beer city," it reportedly has around 60 breweries for a population of only about 600,000. Marley Garden always keeps 16 varieties of Oregon craft beer on hand.

The food here is a highlight too — perhaps a surprise for a beer bar, but the menu includes gyoza and Japanese soba, both classic beer pairings. The soba can be chosen from Shintoku, Shikaoi, or Horokanai varieties, with plans to add Nagano-grown soba in the future.
And no visit is complete without the steamed jidori chicken — steamed using Oregon beer, its aroma alone, drifting through the shop as it cooks, is enough to convince you it's going to be delicious.
The shop always stocks one guest draft beer; at the time of our visit, it was "Noroshi" from Sapporo's own "Taiyo to Tsuki BREWING," with its rich, smoky malt aroma. With reservations made two days in advance, the shop can also accommodate course meals or all-you-can-drink craft beer — a great option for a gathering with friends.
